The Student Hotel continues growth with Personio

Amsterdam, 31 August, 2022 – The Student Hotel, a Dutch chain of European hotels and student accommodation, is partnering with Personio, Europe’s leading HR software company for small and mid-sized businesses, to support its rapid international growth and to increase the efficiency of its HR processes. Thanks to the automation of recurring manual tasks and processes by Personio, The Student Hotel is able to better manage the swift increase in the number of employees across Europe.

The Student Hotel was founded in 2006 by Scottish-Dutch entrepreneur Charlie MacGregor, based on the belief that students deserved better housing. Since then, The Student Hotel has grown into an internationally renowned hospitality brand, with 15 hotels in 12 European cities, including Amsterdam, Delft, Eindhoven, Groningen, Rotterdam, Maastricht, Barcelona, ​​Berlin, Paris, Vienna, Florence and Bologna.

The number of employees also increased rapidly and now stands at 650. This growth is continuing. Additionally, the hospitality industry tends to have a lot of flexible employee contracts, due to seasonal influences and peaks, among other things. Personio helps to make these processes as efficient as possible within this complex HR landscape.

“Following the acquisition of hotels in various countries, we had to deal with a lot of different HR systems. As a result, a 'single point of truth' for personnel information was missing. We wanted to change that, with one centralized HR system for all information about our employees in all countries,” says Jurgen van den Bragt, Financial System Manager at The Student Hotel.

“Because of limited time and capacity, we were looking for something that could get us started quickly. Plug and play, as it were. We were also looking for a partner that could support us with the configuration and rollout. We found all that in Personio. In a demo environment we found that we could get things done very quickly and that it is a very user-friendly solution. So the choice was quickly made.”

HR system for the long term

In addition, Personio's focus on Europe was a factor in The Student Hotel’s decision. The rapid succession of investments in Personio, such as the second Series E investment round in June 2022 , were also a reason for The Student Hotel to choose Personio.

According to Van den Bragt: “This is a signal that people have confidence in Personio's business model, allowing them to continue to grow and develop the platform at the same pace as we do. That means it is a HR system for the long term.”

Integrations

In addition to optimizing and aligning HR throughout the organization, The Student Hotel also wanted to automate as many manual tasks and processes as possible, in order to improve efficiency.

Some of Personio's unique features are the ability to automate common HR tasks using People Workflow Automation, as well as integrations with over 100 third-party solutions. The Student Hotel has already integrated Personio and the Greenhouse's Applicant Tracking System (ATS) that it uses. A connection has also been established for single sign-on with Microsoft Azure, in order to secure access to the system.

After a fast implementation, the first location went live in May 2022 and all locations were transferred to Personio by the end of July. The data of 400 employees is already in the system and the rest will follow soon.
